Let me get this straight, my students do not have math textbooks but Debbie Gist spends over $14,000,000 on testing and consulting services. Someone please tell me the logical reasoning behind this.

Aaron...you can't be serious. Look to NY state. When they started whacking the rich, the rich fled the state. Look at the UK...when they recently whacked the rich, THE COUNTRY TOOK IN LESS MONEY. That is because rich people are rich largely because they are smart and will find ways to stop paying taxes. Like Warren Buffett...who pays himself a meager salary but has a huge portfolio. And then complains he isn't paying enough. Why would the rich stay in RI when they can go five minutes up the road to Attleboro or elsewhere in MA? I just got hit with the AMT...I have to pay RI taxes but I'm getting money back from Mass. Guess where I'm headed Aaron.

Hi David, you are very right (in my opinion) as far as property taxes, which I should have made clearer. RI has the 4th highest property taxes of any state in the country, according to a recent report (can't always trust these rankings completely, but I think this one is reliable). But a huge part of the reason for that is that the state has been cutting aid to cities and towns. When municipalities are losing up to 10% of their budgets every year or so, they have to do something, so they hike property taxes. In essence, tax cuts for the wealthy at the state level are passed down as tax increases on all the middle-class and working families struggling with obscene property taxes. Thanks for the point!

When will Republicans ever get leadership that doesn't leave for a larger paycheck. There seems to be a cycle here. This makes Mr. Sweeney financially smart. But as a Republican, quite frankly I am disappointed that he bailed in an election year for $$.

The Governor has problems besides the tree and talk radio appearances.
His attempt to shiled a man accused of murder during a bank robbery from Federal prosecution is insane. The Federal government has the death penalty and the right to seek it.Chafee is being obstructionist to satisfy his own beliefs.
Chafee's decision to dispense with e-Verify;his promise to veto an e-Verify bill;and his machinations involving the Board of Governors of Higher Education to institute in state tuition foe illegal aliens indiicate his desire to basically turn RI into a sanctuary state.

He's here for his neighborhood and the taxpayers of this city.I get the council docket he is the only one that ever has resolutions on it for his neighborhood. Keep up the good work both of you.

So, you're saying we've lost over $120 million in revenue since 2006 from not taxing the rich?
That's $20 million per year.
So you're saying $20 million more per year on an $8 billion budget would transform RI?........not too bright are you?
