From: NEW: Governor Chafee to Celebrate Expansion of Small Business in East Providence

in Business

I couldn't bring myself to read the article with the fish eye photo of the King of RII soI can only assume that the governor must have heard about a new Kool Aid stand opening in East Prov. Well the Kool-Aid Stand ought to make it untill the Dept. of Business Regs come to visit and the Dept. ofvTaxation give a estimated tax bite of $50,000 or ore and definitely before the police summons for doing business while non-unionized. It ally sounds kind of real.. Doesn't it...?

re : the lending rates , i am presuming the wording is prime rate ( currently 3. 25
percent ) plus 9 , maxing out at 21 percent ?
the primary seat belt law has proven to be for financial purposes and probable cause
for further searches after a mv stop . secondary offense was and is fine .

Vincent - I'm neither of those. I've always called things as I see them. That's what the column is about. You can certainly disagree as you see fit. But as far as being "up someone's rear end," if you've ever taken the actual time to listen to any of my broadcasts, you'd realize what you're saying is not only physically impossible, but completely stupid. Before you call me out like that, take a minute to do your own homework.

You are 100% correct, strangulation can only be logically perceived as "attempted murder." Unfortunately, the law does not see it that way - it only treats it as "domestic assault". Rep DaSilva, who is a police officer frustrated with the lack of ability to arrest and prosecute the cowards who strangle their partners for what they are actually doing - committing a felonious assault with the attempt to murder the victim. So this isn't adding a law or grandstanding by DaSilva - this is a guy on the front lines every day dealing with scumbags who like to abuse their partners and trying to close a loophole in the law... it's a good bill.

Maybe they should try to lower the tax down to what it is in mass, then see how it works out for 6 months. I dont smoke, but I do understand what Rep. Phillips is trying to do,businesses are hurting,if a small decrease will help them keep other purchases here, its worth trying.

Good overall message. But offers no solutions.

There is a battle of ideas out there. Good people with competing ideas are doing all these things..."organizing, coalition building, moral reasoning, strikes, protests, demand and self interest." So we need to know where you stand. That's why I like reading Rowley's column each week (his column today is EXCELLENT).. Rowley never beats around the bush or speaks in platitudes. He states his position, and then tells people the moral and logistical basis for it. It allows people to think clearly and then pick a side. This is one of those articles that no one would really disagree with. So it basically gets us nowhere...in a time where RI really needs to get somewhere.

Is not strangulation pretty plainly "attempted murder'?

Or any one of several other offenses on the books?
While it is a good thing to take murder-attempters out of circulation... is it wise to multiply the statutes when there already exist plenty to deal with the situation?

You have to wonder a lot about this.
Why invent a new law to cover something that is already illegal?
Grandstanding?

It's even worse than this article suggests. Regarding government, the supervisors are in the same union as their workers. These supervisors first loyalty is to their union, not there employer - the public. Thus, there is no supervision. Where there is no supervision, there is fraud and corruption. This is the genesis of the corruption we are seeing throughout Providence government right now - a complete lack of supervision and accountability. No one gets fired or reprimanded or even formally evaluated. The unions and compliant supervisors see to that. In the end, government is far more expensive and inefficient than it should be.

GIP, bringing up rowley's state-cop father is how these union hacks avoid arguing with what rowley says. They think it makes him look like some sort of hypocrite or something.

Great, GREAT article.

What does his father have to do with this? It's not the government WORKERS who have screwed us. It's the entire public union system that was put in place. As Travis pointed out, we were warned, but didn't listen.

This was by far, the best article I've ever read on this website. And I read it almost every day.

It is clearly obvious that government is broken.
It is clearly obvious that the democratic party is in power, and that the unions control them. The losers in all of this, is the general public.

It needs to change. People need to change it. The people need a leader to help make it change. Once a leader begins leading, he'll instantantly have 500,000 followers. The public is tired of all this craziness. We never asked for it, and now it's time to change it!!!

Todd B, thanks for reinforcing my point. Yes, to some loyalty is the almighty dollar and helping one's party is not as important as taking a higher paying position. Yes, he is no different than any other RI politician, and there in lies the disappointment.
