Beyond me why people pay for sub-par private schools. Once the numbers of incoming freshmen start to decline, many private schools will be folding. But wait, let's see what happens going forward. More illegal immigrants at state schools. Less room for sub-par legal applicants at subsidized public tuition rates. Middle class further squeezed out. Yeah, really fair Gump.

@David Allen--EXCELLENT point. GLP, how about digging into the supposed 300 workers that were relocated here. I have heard from people who have done work in the offices that they are virtually empty.....and the people who own the lunch place there say the same thing.....no employees patronizing them that they see.....

An eleceted school board would certainly not have the same political ties as an appointed one. As an example, one can sit through numerous board meetings in CF & rarely does any board member go against the superintendent. There is a lack of independence among the board members. Another example is the President of the Board is a Director of RICAN which seeks to promote charter schools. It smacks of a conflict of interest when her focus should be on improving the public schools under her charge rather than promoting charters.

With all due respect to Ms. Feireisen, when I step into Cook & Brown, I don't feel like I'm anywhere but in Rhode Island. I realize that Ms. Feireisen is infinitely more knowledgeable about fine dining establishments throughout the country, but I don't feel like I have to suspend belief that such a thing can occur in Rhode Island--not at all.
