How Social is Your Realtor?

Many people join Facebook, Twitter, or other social networking sites to stay in contact with friends and loved ones from far away. It is also a way to reconnect with those they have lost contact with over the years. People also show off photos of their lives and family to those who can’t see them every day.
Today, many people use social media to sell their homes as well. And they’re not the only ones. Avante-garde Real Estate Agents create social media profiles to show off their listings, enabling them to reach more buyers and sellers than ever before. Many agents create multiple sites with different focuses. Some will focus on a town or a sub-division, others will be created pages for specific styles or types of real estate. (Antique, waterfront, commercial etc)
Generating Exposure

The listing gets passed from one FaceBook page to another, generating a lot of exposure. Agents will also repost competitors listings on their own pages with the hope of capturing a buyer.
Internet users are spending more time on social-media sites than any other category of websites, according to a Neilsen Holdings N.V. study released in December. Today, with the decline of print media, creative Realtors are looking for other avenues to expose their current listing and capture new business. Social media is fast becoming one of the more reliable ways for home sellers and Realtors to quickly and efficiently expose the properties they wish to sell to the audience that is most likely to purchase.
Virtual Main Street
Quite often, the social media posts exposing real estate will include links back to full listing information, youtube videos, or buyer registration forms. The National Association of Realtors states that 45% of all home buyers last year viewed the home they purchased on-line prior to visiting the property and 21% drove by the property before ever calling a Realtor. Professionals that understand these statistics are increasing these numbers by exposing their inventory to buyers on a daily basis with social media posts. Suffice it to say... Realtors, with many others on Main St. USA, are realizing that the virtual shingle they hang is close to equaling the physical one. Virtual Main St. is down the street from virtual neighborhood and farm... they're here and they have momentum...and a lot of folks are playing catch up.
