RI State Report: Minimum Wage, Woonsocket + Cutting School Days

Saturday, May 25, 2013

This week’s State Report centers on the House’s passage of a $2.5 million supplemental tax bill that aims to help the cash-strapped city of Woonsocket. Also on the docket are a pair of newly passed bills designed to aid the state’s workforce: one that raises the state’s minimum wage and another that intends to get Rhode Islanders back to work. Travis Rowley: Sheldon Whitehouse: A Radical Embarrassment

Saturday, May 25, 2013

As many became rightfully upset over the fact that US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse politicized the deadly storm that struck Oklahoma this week – and then dishonestly excused his reference to “cyclones in Oklahoma” as a mere “coincidence” – the real story behind Whitehouse’s speech from the floor of the US Senate went largely unnoticed.

Skywatching: Supermoon in June + More

June will bring another supermoon to our night skies, so keep your gaze aloft.

Saturday, May 25, 2013

Though the month of June does provide much more reasonable temperatures for amateur astronomers to enjoy their hobby, most of us do not welcome the summer months. Why? Matt Espeut’s Fit For Life: Fit at Forty

Saturday, May 25, 2013

Classical Basketball to Move Forward Without Two Stars

Ismael Batista helped lead Classical to a Division I state title last season.

Saturday, May 25, 2013

Classical Purple boys basketball head coach John Kavanagh had the luxury last season of having not only one, but two career 1,000 point scorers to put on the court with First Team All-State selection and junior point guard Kealen Ives, resulting in the Purple winning their first Division I boys basketball state title since the early 1980's. However, Kavanagh won't have that luxury next season. Batista and Toe will graduate in just a couple of weeks, leaving behind a program that they essentially built over their last four years at Classical.
