Cool Aid: RISD Alums Raise Money for Students

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Tough times call for creative solutions, a skill RISD students can boast with pride.  But ideas don’t pay for an education, and a lack of scholarship funds is driving many talented current and prospective art students out of Providence. RISD students Emma Shapiro (RISD ’10) and Alexandra Surdovel (RISD ’11) have created a new Student Leadership initiative to get their peers more involved in the local art community while at the same time helping current students in financial need.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

There's nothing like spring for bursts of color, from those first buds of purple and yellow crocuses to the sprouts of green grass and leaves.  And makeup is just as fresh because color rocks this spring: bright blues, mossy greens, playful pinks, majestic purples, tawny tangerines…even jungle-green nails.  And while most of us drive the highway to work (not the runway!) we can still enjoy this season's hottest beauty trend.

Dear John: Advice for Rhode Island

John Simpson

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Dear John,

My sister and her family recently adopted a dog – admirable when so many people are giving up their pets because of this economy. However, she named the dog after our much-loved and recently deceased mother. This upsets me and my kids quite a bit and I'm not sure how to approach her about it.

She sees this as a way of honoring our mother's memory and I see it as a daily reminder of our loss and grief—we live in the same neighborhood and see each other every day.

How can I get her to consider re-naming the dog?

Sincerely,
Put Out in Pawtucket
