Thursday, May 06, 2010
After the political earthquake of Congressman Kennedy's announcement that he was not seeking re-election and Providence Mayor David Cicilline's announcement that he is running for Congress, the Providence political scene was flooded with the heavy egos of people who are "seriously considering" running for Mayor. Now, as the waters have subsided, here are a list of people who are officially NOT running for Mayor of Providence continues to grow.
- Richard Licht - While rumors are buzz and polls are in the field, Licht denies interest.
- Myrth York - Former state senator and gubernatorial nominee decided against running, endorsed Angel Taveras and became chair of his campaign.
- Andrew Annaldo - Talked about putting a hefty sum in his campaign account to look at a run, but then decided against it.
- Buddy Cianci - Legal scholars dispute whether he actually can run, but Buddy isn't running for Mayor in 2010.

- Greg Gerritt - The Green Party leader has decided to continue his cutting edge work on urban composting and forgoe another Mayoral bid.
That leaves five announced candidates for Mayor of Providence:

- Chris Young (D)
- Dan Harrop (R)
In addition, there are three possible "independent" candidates for Mayor who are circulating their names (although the next Mayor of Providence will most likely be the winner of the September 14 Democratic Primary): Carrie Marsh, Laurel Casey and former Mayor (and 2002 mayoral primary loser) Joe Paolino.
