Wake for Former Prov. Councilman Joe DeLuca is Tonight

Thursday, July 05, 2012

A wake for former Ward 6 Councilman Joe DeLuca will be held this evening from 4pm to 8pm at A.A. Mariani and Son Funeral Home on Hawkins Street in Providence.

DeLuca, 64, died after a long battle with cancer on July 1.

Born in Italy, the Councilman moved to country when he was 10-years-old. The Central High School graduate and Army veteran represented the Mount Pleasant and Manton neighborhoods from 1991 through.

"Councilman DeLuca served the residents of the sixth ward for 20 years, and he did so with honesty, determination, and a great passion for working for the public good," said Councilman Michael Correia, who now represents Ward 6. "He kept daily office hours in our neighborhood, and made himself accessible to all residents. He fought tirelessly for fiscal responsibility and government accountability. Joe was my mentor, and a treasured friend, and I know his example will continue to inspire me and the entire City of Providence well into the future."

Funeral services are slated for 10am Friday at the Blessed Sacrament Church on Academy Avenue.
