Rowley Accuses Democrats of Ruining RI in New Book

Travis Rowley, a GoLocalProv MINDSETTER™ and chairman of the state Young Republicans, has written a new book about politics in Rhode Island in which he claims that left-wing activists, unions, and Democrats are ruining the state of Rhode Island - and only the Republican Party can save the Ocean State. The self-published book, titled The Rhode Island Republican: An Indictment of the Rhode Island Left, will be available for purchase by the end of this week on travisrowley.com. Rowley recently spoke with GoLocalProv about why he wrote the book and how he thinks it will impact state politics.

Why did you write this book?

If I'm going to live in Rhode Island for the rest of my life, then I will not abide seeing it under Democratic control. All Democrats do is deliver devastation to every neighborhood they come in contact with.

Before people will vote for Republicans, they need to witness up-close the far-left extremism that guides the RI Democrat Party. They need to understand that Democrats have been in complete power for 70 years, and are entirely responsible for the oppressive system we currently live under, and the reason why so many people are fleeing the state.

We are witnessing a time period when the voters are paying close attention and looking for answers. Shame on Republicans if this is the year we decide to take it easy. I'm making an effort to reach out to every Rhode Islander, to inform them not only of what the Democrats have done, but also what the Republican Party is really all about. Because when the voters are engaged, Republican ideas win. When the voters fall asleep, that's when Democrats gain the advantage, and can start implementing their collectivist agenda once again.

What’s your main message?

My main message is that the Republican Party is the only thing that can save the State of Rhode Island. Republicans represent reform and progress, and governmental practices that are in harmony with the founding of the country – principles of individualism and limited government that Democrats abandoned a long time ago.

We’re talking about a party that cannot even be compromised with, because the direction in which they travel is so antithetical to principles of liberty, that even making incremental offerings to them would be to sacrifice core American values. After 70 years of running the state, Democrats have already shown us what slow government growth delivers. Democrats need to be defeated, not bargained with. The ship needs to be righted. And only Republicans can get the job done.

The Democrat Party is controlled and operated by far-left radicals and unrelenting special interests, people who do not personally benefit from fixing the state. I’m exposing the shadows of the Democrat Party, so Rhode Islanders can see for themselves exactly how their elected representatives have betrayed them.

Rhode Islanders need to feel outrage and urgency. And they need to be made aware of the radical nature of the RI Democrat Party, exactly what the party of big-government has evolved into over the past forty years.

What do you hope to accomplish?

Nothing short of a wholesale power shift will satisfy me. The state’s only chance for economic recovery is to exercise Republican governance. Democrats need to be sent out to the political wilderness, and only be allowed back when they can prove that they understand what it truly means to be American again.

As a political partisan, it is my responsibility to reach out to the voters, and tell them why my team should be entrusted with governmental power. As a Republican, that means speaking often about the virtues of competition, limited government, and low taxes. But it also means pointing to the absolute recklessness of Democratic rule, and the oppressive systems they have created all around us.

What do you say that hasn’t been said before?

It’s probably my writing style that is the most unique, not the message. A lot of people are afraid to name names, and point their fingers toward the people responsible. But I think that is the most important part of the message. We need to tell the voters exactly who is responsible.

By ignoring the founding principles, Democrats have created the conditions that put us at war with our neighbors. It's taxpayer versus public worker. It's the employer versus the employee. It's the illegal alien versus the legal citizen. I know these Democrats, and what they represent. This chaos they created, it has all been by design.

My political experience, coming out of Brown University, is with the far left. And I think that has put me in a unique position to be able to point out the radical elements that have infiltrated Rhode Island government.

What about conservative Democrats? Are they part of the problem too?

There are no good Democrats. We hear that a lot, that not all Democrats are bad. Well, after a while things reach a point where merely remaining as a member of a corrupt organization will unavoidably make you an agent of corruption as well. If there were truly any good Democrats, they would have realized what the Democrat Party has become, acknowledged the Democrats' defiance to basic American principles, and left the party a long time ago. Instead, these 'good Democrats' choose to remain within the party in power, compromising their principles with the hopes that the far-left leadership will throw them a bone once in a while. This political slavery does nothing to send the state back in the right direction. So, basically, a good Democrat is a Republican.
