Taveras’ Innauguration Raises $110k

The $110k in donations for Providence Mayor-elect Angel Taveras’ inauguration comes from a who’s who list of law firms, banks and corporations, GoLocalProv has learned. More than 30 organizations are helping to fund the event, which will be held Monday night at the Rhode Island Convention Center.
Featured names on the list are GTECH, DarrowEverett, Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge and Fidelity Investments. Also donating to the event is Brown University and Johnson & Wales, two of the four private schools in Providence that came under fire during the Mayor’s race for not paying enough in taxes to the city. Providence College and RISD were not listed.
At least a half dozen law firms, many of whom were key contributors to Taveras successful campaign, also donated to the inauguration. Before being appointed a housing court judge by Mayor Cicilline, Taveras ran a law office in the same building and on the same floor as House Speaker Gordon Fox.

He ran on a message of bringing everyone, including the private and public sector, to the table to discuss how to move Providence forward and it has clearly resonated. He surprised many by winning September’s Democratic primary in such convincing fashion and has continued his momentum as he prepares to take office.
Now the question isn’t, who supports the Mayor-elect?
It’s who doesn’t?
