State Senate Democrats to Pick Leadership Today
Wednesday, November 10, 2010
A caucus of the Senate Democrats will meet today to pick their leadership for the next session. The caucus will endorse a candidate for Senate President—which the full body must vote on when the next session convenes in January. The Democrats will also elect a Majority Leader.
The incumbent Senate President is M. Teresa Pavia Weed, D-Newport. The Majority Leader position is open because the current leader, Dan Connors, D-Cumberland, decided to not seek re-election.
Once elected, the Senate President will appoint members to the other leadership positions in the Senate - Depurty Majority Leader, Majority Whip, and Deputy Majority Whip.
