Aaron Regunberg

The state rep. from the East Side of Providence is really making a name for himself by sticking up for progressive causes. Best known for his advocacy for paying out earned sick-time, Regunberg has been crusading against the National Grid rate hike as of late.

Regunberg is said to be eyeing a challenge to Lieutenant Governor Dan McKee next year.

All signs point to him positing a formidable challenge.

Gracelyn Rennick

The 19-year-old Rhode Island native shows us the value of perseverance. Rennick showed musical talent at a very young age, but developed Lyme Disease, a seizure disorder, and partial hearing loss at age 12.

She’s since rebounded, as she pointed out on GoLocal LIVE this week, and has won multiple awards and will headline a show at The Met on Tuesday.

Best of luck to Rennick as she moves forward.

Boston Celtics

Celtics President Danny Ainge traded Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zicic and the rights to the 2018 first round pick from Brooklyn to Cleveland for Kyrie Irving.

Make no mistake: this is a tremendous trade for the Celtics as they pick up one of the best, promising young point guards in the NBA.

The gives the Celtics a legitimate chance to make the NBA Finals next year.

Charlie Baker

Public polling consistently puts Baker as the nation’s most popular governor within his own state given his willingness to work with state Democrats to get things done in Massachusetts.

Baker will headline a fundraiser for the Rhode Island Republicans this Monday at the Hope Club.

It’s a nice get for the RI-GOP.

Arthur Solomon and Sally Lipides

The two Rhode Islanders have made a multi-year donation to Trinity Rep, and have had the organization’s artistic director position named after them.

Rhode Island is lucky to have an educational and cultural organization like Trinity Rep and it's nice to see philanthropists like Solomon and Lipides step up to the plate to keep the organization going strong.

Ana Gonzalez

The former Brown University student has made a documentary about Rhode Islanders who influenced hip-hop since the 1960’s called “Almost Dope."

It should be an interesting movie and will be premiered at The Columbus Theatre tonight at 7 p.m.

Sheldon Whitehouse

The US Senator from Rhode Island proudly proclaims that he doesn’t like bigotry, yet he hangs out at the ultra exclusive Spouting Rock Beach Association (SRBA), commonly referred to as Bailey’s Beach Club, which has very little, if any, racial diversity.

The senator’s wife is a major shareholder in the club, according to a GoLocal report.

Perhaps it’s just happenstance that there’s so little diversity at Bailey’s Beach Club. Yet if that’s the case, why won’t Senator Whitehouse discuss his involvement with the club?

Caroline Kennedy

When police arrived at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port, Cape Cod this weekend after hearing complaints of a loud party, they received some serious attitude from the granddaughter of Bobby Kennedy.

“I went to Brown and I’m a teacher, sweetheart!” Caroline Kennedy told the police.

Apparently, that makes her above the law, in her opinion. Here’s the thing: it doesn’t. She, and her father Maxwell Kennedy, were arrested and released on bail.

Louise Linton

The wife of US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin might be able to buy brand names like Hermes and Roland Mouret, but she, unfortunately, cannot buy class.

Linton took to social media to excoriate an Oregon woman who criticized her for using her social media account to brag about what awesome brands she was rocking while traveling with her husband, who was on official government business. “Have you given more to the economy than me or my husband?” She asked. Translation: I’m better than you, so keep quiet. (Newsflash: You’re not, Ms. Linton.)

National Grid

The state’s Public Utilities Commission recently approved a massive rate hike that will increase the average user’s bill by roughly 20 percent.

That’s going to hit so many of the state’s struggling family’s hard.

The state needs to do something to lower our energy costs.

ESPN

The gigantic sports network decided to pull sports announcer Robert Lee from broadcasting the upcoming University of Virginia football game because his name is the same of the Confederate General whose statue removal caused all of the uproar a few weeks ago.

That’s ridiculous.

The network even defended the move by saying his broadcasting the game might cause some idiots on social media to ridicule him. That’s just letting the internet trolls win and showing them that anyone cares about their nonsense.

The Lottery

I understand that everyone was going crazy over the massive Powerball Jackpot that was drawn on Wednesday evening and I get that it’s nice to fantasize about what one would do with all of those newfound millions of dollars. But the lottery is really just a tax on people who cannot do math. It’s a waste of money. Horse racing is much more fun and exciting. (Though I'm sure the person who bought the winning ticket in Chicopee, Mass. would disagree.)
