RI Campaign Update - GOP Candidate Urges Mollis to Take Action on Ballot
Saturday, September 18, 2010
With just days remaining until the November ballot is printed, Republican Secretary of State candidate Catherine Taylor urged incumbent Ralph Mollis to redesign the ballot to minimize the straight-ticket voting option, known as the master lever.
“As the chief elections officer, the Secretary of State has the responsibility to minimize the confusion that the master lever creates and the unfair advantage it gives to political parties and incumbents,” Taylor said.
“Now is the time for Secretary Mollis to prove to voters his newfound support for eliminating the master lever,” she added. “Today, I am appealing to Secretary Mollis to put the people of Rhode Island before party or special interests, and reduce the unfair effects of the master lever in time for this year’s election.
