Today election 2010 will take shape as those vying for local, state, and federal offices face a 4 p.m. deadline for making their candidacies official.  

In Providence, Angel Taveras made his declaration as a Democratic candidate for mayor a family affair yesterday, bringing two nieces and a cousin along for the occasion, as well as former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Myrth York, who is his campaign chair. Fellow Democratic mayoral candidate John Lombardi also filed his papers yesterday.

City Council Candidate Proposes Web Site for Constituents

Democratic Providence City Council candidate David Salvatore yesterday said he would use his campaign funds to create a Web site that could be a “sounding board” for residents in Ward 14 to discuss issues with each other and get in touch with him.

“At the same time, I intend to have a phone number where people can have easy access to me outside of City Hall, so we can ensure a strong flow of information about what’s going on in our neighborhood,” added Salvatore.  

David Caprio Faces Primary Challenge

Democrat David Caprio—the state House Judiciary chairman and brother of gubernatorial candidate Frank Caprio—will face a contested primary if he decides to run for re-election as state rep from District 34.

Yesterday, Teresa Tanzi yesterday kicked off her campaign for the seat at an event at Hanson’s Pub in Wakefield.

Caprio has represented the district—which encompasses Wakefield, Peace Dale, and Narragansett—since 1999. So far, neither candidate has filed their papers with the Secretary of State, according to the latest available listing.
