RI Campaign 2010 – King Says Unions Ripping Off Taxpayers
General Treasurer candidate Kerry King, a Republican, yesterday said blamed much of the states financial troubles on public sector unions.
“We have red ink all over Rhode Island because our public sector unions are ripping off the taxpayers with their sweetheart contracts,” King said at an event at the AARP State Legislative Committee. “That’s partly why we now face $22 billion of debt and unfunded pension liabilities.”

He also said he would protect public sector workers who had already earned their benefit from an insolvency or bankruptcy in the community where they had worked.
Caprio Gets Providence Ward Endorsements
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Frank Caprio has been endorsed by the Democratic committees for Wards 7 and 15 in Providence, according to his campaign.
“I am proud of the support I have received from Wards 7 and 15,” said Caprio. “We are going to work hard to make government the advocate for small businesses and working families and we are going to make the big changes Rhode Island needs to bring our state back.”
Kilmartin Calls for Task Force on Business Fraud
Democratic candidate for Attorney General Peter Kilmartin yesterday called for a task force on business fraud and employee misclassification.
“The role of the Attorney General in Rhode Island is to protect our families, workers, and businesses while ensuring that everyone is playing by the rules,” Kilmartin said. “As Attorney General, I will create a Task Force on Business Fraud and Employee Misclassification to help stop deceptive and corrupt business practices that plague our state and keep us from moving towards a stronger tomorrow.”
The task force would enforce applicable state labor, licensing and tax laws, according to his campaign. It would also investigate alleged violations against workers’ rights.
