Wednesday, August 28, 2013
Sullivan was recently recognized in Campaigns and Elections magazine as one of Rhode Island’s top political consultants, most recently served as the campaign director of Rhode Islanders United, the lead organization behind winning marriage equality in Rhode Island.
“Checkmate has a proven record of fighting for the causes and candidates with which it works, and I admire that. During the marriage campaign, their team was invaluable in helping us define and advance our message. I’m proud to be joining a firm that shares my progressive values and commitment to creating the right kind of change,” Sullivan said.
“Our goal is simple: to help good people win by building campaigns that integrate smart advertising, grassroots organizing, and digital strategies,” said Brad Dufault, Checkmate’s founding partner.
Sullivan Brings Extensive Experience to Firm
Before leading Rhode Islanders United for Marriage, Ray served as a aide to several statewide and federal candidates and elected leaders including Congressman Jim Langevin, Lt. Governor Charles Fogarty, and former senator and Democratic gubernatorial nominee Myrth York. In 2008, he was the state director for President Obama’s campaign in Rhode Island. Prior to that, Ray spent six years in the General Assembly, representing the people of Coventry and West Greenwich in the 29th House District.
“Ray has a unique and in-depth understanding of message and organizing. Having worked with him on previous campaigns, I’ve witnessed his relentless commitment to his team and the high professional standards he holds himself and others to - that makes him a great fit for Checkmate. We have a similar, forward-thinking vision for this company – one that starts and ends with helping our clients stand out, speak up and win," said Dufault.
