video: NEW: Senator Miller Issues Apology for State House Altercation

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

Senator Josh Miller

Senator Josh Miller issued the following statement today, following an altercation with a gun rights activist at the Rhode Island State House that was caught on videotape.

See Video BELOW

Statement from Miller

Miller released the following statement today:

"Last Tuesday a vast group of Rhode Islanders gathered peacefully in the State House rotunda to voice their concerns about gun violence in our state and in our country. They also gathered to support sensible gun legislation that would ban the sale of assault weapons, ban the sale of high capacity magazines, ban weapons on school grounds and deny firearm access to individuals who have been convicted of domestic violence misdemeanors.

At the end of a press conference in which I participated, an individual representing a website notorious for conspiracy theories started berating members of the coalition and intimidating elderly veterans, members of the clergy and victims of violence.

It quickly became a highly charged atmosphere, which required the presence of the Capitol Police. The individual in question is not new to the State House and is known for his aggressive and intimidating manner. He also was interrupting legitimate members of the media who were attempting to conduct interviews.

After watching him antagonize an elderly veteran he swung his camera my way, which produced a very human and guttural reaction. I respect both the Second Amendment and the First Amendment. It is important to note that the individual in question was physically removed from a committee room by the Capitol Police later that evening.

Regardless of the emotions and atmosphere of the moment, it does not justify the language I used that day. Out of respect for the decorum of the State House and the constituents I represent, I offer my apologies."

my of my---- how all the moral standards in our state house have fallen.

This is not an apology, it's a poor attempt at justification of his sleezy behavior. By all progressive standards, he needs to resign for his hate speech.

This is how a Senator acts in public? for real? Josh Miller you are a punk not a senator. You all think you are above the law like fox you will fall fast ! vote this jerk out !!!!!!!

Comment #3 by michael oliver on 2014 03 25

The interviewer was much more polite than the senator. This is just more proof that we send our C-grade players to the gen assembly. I wish some of our better and smarter people would find the time to run for office, but we are too busy working to pay the taxes and fees these leftist losers dream up.

Let me tell you what this guy is like and you will understand why I had to tell him to go F... himself.

Local and State governments are full of snakes and character-disordered people. Sane people choose not to run for re-election once they are exposed to those who do the “people’s business.”

The father of a six-year-old Newtown massacre victim was HECKLED and SHOUTED-DOWN by dozens of loony gun-nut audience members during a hearing held by the Gun Violence Prevention Group. Neil Heslin pleaded in his testimony for lawmakers to improve mental health options and ban assault weapons like the one Adam Lanza used to murder his son Jesse, 19 other first graders and six adults. "I still can't see why any civilian, anybody in this room in fact, needs weapons of that sort. You're not going to use them for hunting, even for home protection," Heslin said

Comment #7 by Sammy Arizona on 2014 03 25

The reason we have the 2nd amendment is so people can protect themselves from threats foreign and domestic. If a law abiding citizen should be allowed to own a tank and jet fighter if they can afford it. Neil Heslin obviously understands nothing of the reason for the 2nd amendment or the thousands of years of history in which the ruling class has used disarming the populace to control them. If people won't take the time to understand the United States Constitution and its amendments (and a basic understanding of the preceding British Bill of Rights) and the reasons behind them, we cannot have a sensible informed debate about it.

Don't let the government use isolated horrendous acts of violence and terror to leave the American citizenry defenseless against aggression.

I don't get mad at people for being born dumb. That blame lays at their parents feet. But engaging in a debate as serious as the constitution without a rudimentary understanding of it is just plain ignorant.

Where are all the teachers that were so offended with the word whore now. Will the teachers union endorse this voracious user of the 1st amendment while attacking another person for using theirs? Me personally, I defend his right to speak freely. I expect teachers that have such an enormous influence on our children to condemn this man. He is supposed to be a leader for our state.

Unfortunately nobody ever explained the first amendment (freedom of speech) to Senator Miller. ...LOL

As the good folks at the NRA (and other gun-nut groups) have claimed The first Amendment is obviously linked to the Second Amendment. Therefore ONLY gun-nuts deserve to afford the First Amendment.

So its fine for gun-nut loons like Ted Nugent to tell anyone F you but definitely vise_versa

Comment #10 by Sammy Arizona on 2014 03 26

but definitely NOT vise_versa

Comment #11 by Sammy Arizona on 2014 03 26

Really Sammy, now call off the teachers that are picketing the radio station. And I expect 1st amendment loving politicians cotting as well.will stop boy

Wasn't Sen. Miller using violent hate speech?

Shouldn't a law be passed to control such hateful outbursts?

Senator Miller:

We have seen this cameraman before and realize what he is.

Having said that; your choice of expletive (and its content), your tone, and your facial expressions fully embody the people’s perception of Rhode Island government. That your “associate” parroted your expletive simply underscores the thuggish attitude we see in those on Smith Hill. Once elected you just do as you please.

Your arrogant reaction resonates with a majority who feel (and are) disenfranchised from meaningful input in day to day Rhode Island matters. Over time, every political and procedural trick in the book has been played to plow through legislation which history has shown is not in the best interest of the People of this State.

To the lobbyists, special interest groups, 501c3’s, relatives, state workers, and political friends go the spoils that we, the unwashed People pay for.

Your attitude as a State Legislator has gone internet-viral and further damages the business climate in Rhode Island. You have become a world-wide poster boy for politics in our State. The internet is forever. Why would any small or medium size business want to relocate here when yours is what we see as a collective, daily response from State government?

Comment #14 by John S Smith on 2014 03 26

I COMPLETELY Endorse Senator Miller's reply.
From me I would like to add "and do it with your GUN"
Disgusting individual, disgusting position.

Comment #15 by Michele Verduchi on 2014 03 26

If you can't think and can't support your position, swear at the other person. Class act...

Comment #16 by Jimmy LaRouche on 2014 03 26

Oh I can think, and I can support. And anyone who uses the pain of those parents in Newtown to advance their sick infatuation with killing machines deserves to be sworn at. I stand by my invitation for how he should accomplish the fete. And now that delightful Mr. Phelps is gone, perhaps we could nominate Mr. Bidondi for most reviled blowhard in America.

Comment #17 by Michele Verduchi on 2014 03 26

you Michele are a disgusting POS & anti american, who do you think is using the dead kids, you are!

Thanks, Ilik. I take your contempt as a true badge of honor. As I do all assaults from paranoid, hate filled idiots. POS I am, my friend.
Rather be a POS than an NRA whore. And I am quite certain I am more American than you. SWAK smile

Comment #19 by Michele Verduchi on 2014 03 26

no you are just a old fashion democrat whore feeding again off dead kids, thats all you are.

Well, my friend Ilik,
I have a very close and very personal experience with losing a child whose head was blow off at Sandy Hook Elementary School. So my friend, you are the one who is full of pure shit So, no, my friend, that's not all I am. I have a very personal experience here I am writing from.
You will loose, because you are wrong. I'm done with this and you now. If I were as evil as you and people who think like you I would cave to my urge to hope for something horrendous to happen to you or a loved one of yours also because that seems to be the only way to get through to you shit heads. But no, I wish you all the best in your quest. Now if you'll excuse me, I have better things to do. Death to the NRA. xoxo

Comment #21 by Michele Verduchi on 2014 03 26

This hate speech bombast is hysterical. Do you peckerwoods actually believe that shit? Classic.

Comment #22 by bill bentley on 2014 03 27

The GA has been f--ing the state for years. He was just giving vent to what has been going on for so long.

Or he was shooting his mouth off at Second Amendment supporters.

By the way, Miller's apology wasn't. The better amends? Throw him out of office!

Comment #23 by Arthur Schaper on 2014 03 27

Josh Miller..he has D-bag written all over him !!

Comment #24 by frank bentley on 2014 03 27

Sammy Arizona - Yes both Senator Miller and Mr. Nugent have a right to say what ever they wish. Usually State Senators are held to a higher standard than rock-n-roll artists. The Senator should have been able to answer questions put to him.

Michele Verduchi - Condolences on your loss. Please try to keep blame of the incident where it belongs, on Adam Lanza.

How soon Sammy the delusional liar forgets the Obama plan to station "Monitors" in news rooms. That's the ole FIRST AMENDMENT for ya.. at least in the eyes of "progressive bullslippers"

Lanza, the kind the ACLU likes to protect.

The so called "progressive" punks are ever willing to ride on the backs of dead children in their endless quest for POWER. Last Friday didn't help much, one of their own bleeped 'em good. Go get 'em Nick.

I wonder what Sammy the Liar thinks of Senator Leland Yee, Deeeeeeeeeee
California, big time anti gun tweeter and rider onthe backs of those killed by the INSANE, just BUSTED in an FBI STING for trying to import AUTOMATIC WEAPONS for "Resale". He wuz only tryin' ta help. Sammy???? Sammy????

G Godot:

Not only Leland Yee, but Ron Calderon was indicted for corruption and bribery. Oh, and in our state legislature, a convicted felon, Roderick Wright of Inglewood, is still in office, still in his seat, and now sits and takes his leave while still getting paid.

But GOP have been pressing for removal of all three, while State Senate President Darrell Steinberg has played hypocrisy, demanding that the indicted legislators step down, but has said nothing about the convicted felon.

Steinberg has made a bad situation worse by demanding that Yee resign, but still says nothing -- nothing! -- to Wright.

That's just wrong!

Rhode Islanders should not feel alone in having a sorry state legislature.

In California, Republicans have won two special state senate elections and a mayor's seat (San Diego).

Don't give in to the battered voter syndrome of days gone bay. Time to batter up and take back your state, Rhode Islanders.

Tell the Dems (per Joshua Miller) to start taking their own advice!

Comment #30 by Arthur Schaper on 2014 03 27

LOL Hardly a day goes by here in Arizona without some Tea-Party idiot or Republican loon telling me to go F___ myself. One 67 year old Tea Bagger was arrested while spray painting the F-bomb on my garage... he paid for my much needed new paint-job "thank you"

The "victim" Gun Nut in the video is still free to go repeat himself on Fox News, WPRO and all the other professional "victim" outlets that the righties are so enamored with. We all know how conservative rubes just LOVE to play the victim card.
Sammy in Arizona

Comment #31 by Sammy Arizona on 2014 03 28

Even to this day, (today on Fox News) the morbidly obese Chris Christie still calls the closing of America's busiest bridge a "lane realignment" ...LOL

Never forget that the ONLY Rhode Island Governor to do jail time for bribery was the convicted felon Republican Ed DePrete The only President (later pardoned) to resign in disgrace Republican ,,, the felon Richard Nixon

Comment #32 by Sammy Arizona on 2014 03 28

Apparently our General Assembly doesn't keep up with current events. Detroit has had ten fatal self-defense shootings this year. Detroit the city that is going bankrupt and can't afford to send police on calls (how far behind can RI be?). The good citizens are taking care of business. Ten criminals that won't be assaulting, robbing or killing anymore.

Detroit Police Chief said:
“This should be a message to those who continue to perpetuate violence on Detroiters that enough is enough. You’ve got to be concerned about good Detroiters who aren’t going to stand for it.”.“Detroiters are fed up and they are taking action.”

The progressives of course can't let this continue, they will lose all their voters.

Sammy Arizona - You're worried about a little traffic, Obama and the Democrats shut down all the programs in the U.S. over one issue (Affordable Care Act), of course strangely enough that was the only Government web page that was up, it wasn't working but it was up. Now Democrats are extending the deadline for a third time. Without going back through the legislative process this is breaking the law. Remember the shutdown, that was all about delayed implementation and more discussion. Guess the Republicans were right.

Sammy, aside from being a total stranger to the truth, like his hero Dirty Harry Reid, is tedious.

Sammy boy, it appears, suffers from that pernicious form of political amnesia which causes him to remember and recite the lies propagated by his political bedfellows, but little else. Except, perhaps, the location of the local "benefits office". It's the most dubious form of hypocrisy

Democrats suck on so many levels but to use dead children is the lowest form of disgusting 100%, if they cared one bit for children they wouldn't push abortion like they do.

I'd like to know what "eating establishment" this beauty Miller "manages" so I don't enter it by mistake. BTW, Sammy-boy, speaking of eating, Christie has lost a hundred pounds, putting him WAY under the fat content of one Michael More, man mountain, leftwing lickspittle hero.
