Thursday, September 25, 2014
An upcoming fundraiser for Providence Mayoral candidate Jorge Elorza, headlined by Rhode Island’s all-Democrat federal delegation will be held at a non-union hotel.
According to an email sent out by the Elorza campaign to supporters, the October 2nd fundraiser will be held at the Providence Marriot Hotel – which does not employ unionized workers. It is being promoted as a Democratic unity event, hosted by Rhode Island’s all-Democratic national delegation of U.S. Senators and Congressmen – Sen. Jack Reed, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, Rep. Jim Langevin and Rep. David Cicilline. Ticket prices range from $100.00 - $1,000.00.

Historically, the Hotel is host to RI Republican events over the past few decades.
UNITE HERE Local 217, the union of hotel and food service workers in Connecticut and Rhode Island endorsed Elorza’s Democratic primary opponent, Michael Solomon in the Democratic Primary for Mayor of Providence. The Union has been pushing for higher wages for hotel workers and increase in the minimum wage.
The Elorza, Reed, Whitehouse, Langevin, and Cicilline campaigns all refused to comment on the story.
