NEW: RI Taxpayers Director Donna Perry Steps Down
Friday, July 19, 2013
Donna Perry, the Executive Director of the statewide taxpayer advocacy organization, RI Taxpayers, will be leaving the organization, it was announced today.
Perry, who handled media relations for several years and the duties of Executive Director over the past year, stepped down last month. Perry says though she felt the time had arrived to pursue other directions, she remains a supporter of the organization’s mission to advocate for the perspective of the taxpayer.
“I remain very supportive of the taxpayer watchdog role that the organization has played over the years and the vital voice it provides on a wide array of issues affecting the state’s taxpayers,” she said.

New directions for Perry
Perry says one new area she intends to pursue includes the development of her own media relations services catering to programs for special needs and autism spectrum children and young adults. “Programs serving special needs and autism spectrum individuals are areas in which I have strong familiarity and personal family experience, but they have less public understanding and media awareness than they could have,” she said. “I would like to combine my passion for that area with my public relations experience and hopefully give these programs and issues greater visibility.”
A separate project Perry has named includes preparing to guest host a series of programs this summer which will provide an in-depth examination of the state’s economic development and business climate issues for the local cable State of the State program, and expects they will start airing in late July. “ I hope to remain involved with taxpayer oriented public policy discussions going forward through different media venues when possible,” she said. Broadcast information on the series will be forthcoming at www.stateofthestateri.com. Perry says it’s her understanding that RI Taxpayers is undertaking a review on ways to restructure the organization and designate new leadership. Moderate Party gubernatorial candidate Ken Block, who served as the organization’s President this year, stepped away in May to pursue his gubernatorial campaign.
