Mayor Angel Taveras

The Providence Fire Fighters (IAFF Local 799) have endorsed Providence Mayor Angel Taveras for Governor of Rhode Island. Local 799 serves over five hundred active and retired members.

“When Providence faced a $110 million structural deficit that threatened to bankrupt our city Mayor Taveras brought together our unions, municipal workers, retirees and others,” said Local 799 President Paul Doughty. “He solved our budget crisis through negotiation and compromise while continuing to invest in our priorities. Under his leadership we have graduated two new classes of firefighters and they will be among the best prepared in our city’s history. After seeing this kind of leadership up close, there really is no other choice for our state.”

“I am proud to receive the endorsement of the Providence Fire Fighters and consider myself privileged to have been able to work alongside them as Mayor,” said Taveras. “These brave men and women are heroes who support our community every day. As governor, I will continue to work on their behalf, to get our economy back on track, improve education and infrastructure, and to stand up for them and for working families across our state.”
