NEW: Patrick Kennedy to Campaign with David Cicilline

Monday, August 27, 2012

U.S. Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) received the formal endorsement of former Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy, who represented Rhode Island’s First Congressional District from 1995 through 2011.

“I've known David Cicilline for years, and I am incredibly proud of the work that he has already done since we sent him to serve in Congress. No one has been working harder than David to get our state back on the right track and put Rhode Islanders back to work,” said Kennedy. “In Congress, David works hard for his constituents, hosted housing and senior resources fairs, and consistently stood up for Rhode Island. He is running a campaign focused on the issues important to hardworking families across our state, and I am looking forward to joining him in a few weeks ahead of this year's primary. With some of the wild and reckless allegations we have seen this week serving only to distract from the serious issues facing Rhode Island, Democrats need to stay focused on winning in November, and David Cicilline will hold this seat in the fall.

Kennedy will join Cicilline for campaign events the week of September 9th. A highly-respected proponent of Social Security and Medicare sustainability, Kennedy will take part in meetings with area seniors to highlight the services that Cicilline has provided during his first term in office.

Kennedy joins other prominent Rhode Island Democrats, including Senator Jack Reed, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Congressman Jim Langevin, and Providence Mayor Angel Taveras in backing Cicilline for re-election.

“I am honored to receive former Congressman Kennedy’s endorsement today,” said Cicilline. “During his time in office, Congressman Kennedy earned the admiration and respect of seniors across our state for his relentless work on their behalf. I am looking forward to having him join me ahead of the primary election.”

The Democratic primary election will be held Tuesday, September 11th.

The power of the strong-arm of the Democratic machine in full effect. Imagine what sort of gun must be put to your head to go from exposing a big fat lie articulated by a predecessior about the City's finances and pronouncing a "Category 5 hurricane in Providence" - to being forced to back the storm-maker or face the wrath of the party. Poor, poor Taveras...

Funny that GoLocal failed to mention Raimondo in the list of prominent politicians supporting the Criminal Congressman Cicilline... I wonder how she was able to back out of that..??

Blais Hazelwood

Someone tell Kennedy he lives in New Jersey now please.

Blais Hazelwood

Wait till Patches hears about all the scandal surrounding Chickachini. He will suddenly have something else to do the week of Sept. 9th. The only guy I know who starts a family for the purpose of public image and future political run. Look what you've won Patches, A NEW FAMILY!

Harold Stassen

When in doubt, trot out a Kennedy, and scare the crap out of senior citizens about how the bad republicans are going to end social security. We've seen this charade before. Unfortunately, it works.

jon paycheck

a has been like patches kennedy....

one person that hasn't shown up to support ciccilini is obama.

remember how obama stabbed hillary clinton in the back at the democratic convention in 2008 wheh he dropped her her and supooerted obama?

also no other congressmen? hmm wonder why here to campaign for him????

"A highly-respected proponent of Social Security and Medicare sustainability, Kennedy will take part in meetings with area seniors to highlight the services that Cicilline has provided during his first term in office."

Is this a news article or a press release? Or just a lazy report that cut and pasted from a press release? Makes the Projo reporters all look like Pulitzer Prize winners...

David Allen

Tood B, I too have pointed that out in numerous articles. GoLocal is materful at taking Cicilline for his word...cutting and pasting whatever he prints. It's lazy journalism.

Russ Hryzan

Fantastic...one former RI political embarrassment out campaigning for the current political embarrassment and lying crook that replaced him.

Michael Trenn

Patrick, How can we miss you when you won't go away?

Blais Hazelwood

Here's hoping he misses a dosage of daily meds prior to arrival. HEADLINE- Kennedy found shirtless laying in front lawn of home in Lincoln. Oh wait that already happened once and kept quiet. Thanks to the man who rushed to pick him up in the middle of the night only to be told sorry I just can't support your run for congress because Pelosi said she wants Chickachini....FROM TOP SECRET FILES OF POLITICAL BLUNDERS BY RI DEMS NEVER TO MAKE THE PRESS.

Odd Job

What a vile subhuman he is!

Todd B

@David Cicilline: If your staff hasn't told you, just a reminder-don't let Patrick drive the car when the two of you are campaigning together...and wear your seatbelt.

Mateo C

Patches will definitely have somewhere else to be if this voter fraud scandal chasing Cicilline gets any bigger. (but this is RI, so it won't..)

And if Cicilline has not given you enough reasons to vote him out of office, the additional support from Patches should be enough to pull the lever for someone else this time.

Lance Chappell

I wonder if anyone asked him about the $719 Billion withdrawl from Medicare? The Dems voted for that one!! How will patches and what's-his-name square up that answer? Two of the seven dwarfs!
