NEW: Mayoral Candidate Elorza Reports $182K in 2013 Fundraising

Jorge Elorza, Democratic mayoral candidate and former Providence Housing Court Judge, has claimed to have raised $182,000 in his first four months of fundraising. Elorza finished the year with over $170,000 in the bank after expenses.

Elorza exceeded his goal to raise $30,000 in his first 30 days of fundraising, ending his first month with $60,000 in private donations. He loaned himself another $22,000, totaling $82,000.

"I am humbled by the support that our campaign has received from people across the city who share our vision of One Providence”, said Elorza. “This campaign is one built on grassroots efforts stemming from every neighborhood in the city, and I am grateful that those efforts have enabled us to start 2014 on such a positive note.”

Born in a triple-decker in the Providence's West End, Elorza is a product of the city’s public school system. He attended CCRI, then URI, and went on to graduate from Harvard Law School.

Elorza served as an associate justice of the Providence Housing Court from 2010 to 2013 and, since 2005, has been a tenured Professor of Law at Roger Williams University.

2014 Providence Mayoral Race

In addition to Elorza, the current field of Democratic mayoral candidates includes City Council President Michael Solomon, former Chair of the Providence Water Supply Board Brett Smiley, and managing director at Ballentine Partners Lorne Adrain.

The winner of the Democratic Primary will face Republican Dr. Daniel Harrop, who is running for mayor for the third time.
