NEW: Luna Family Endorses Rochelle Lee for City Council

The family of deceased Councilman Miguel Luna has penned a letter of support for Ward 9 Council Candidate Rochelle Lee, GoLocalProv has learned.

Lee, a Harvard-educated policy maker who has ran unsuccessfully for State Senate twice in the past, is an executive member of the Providence Democratic City Committee. She is the only non-Latino candidate in the race.

In the letter, the Luna family cites three reasons they’re support Lee.

“1) She shows commitment to Miguel's values, especially his love or all people - of different races, socio-economic classes, immigration statuses or sexual identities. Through her own work with different groups in the neighborhood, Rochelle has shown dedication to diversity of our community.

2) Rochelle has the experience and capacity to bring about the projects large and small, that the district needs and she will be able to navigate among the political labyrinths of our city without losing focus on the needs of the people. In her career, she has developed millions of dollars of affordable housing for owners and renters, has taught in high schools, and has helped small businesses.

3) Rochelle Lee has worked with Miguel since the beginning of his fight for the people of Ward 9, before his first campaign in 1998 until the end of his struggle in this world. Not only in politics, Rochelle has worked with him finding solutions to the problems our community faces."
