NEW: Gemma’s Field Director Resigns
Thursday, August 09, 2012
There has been a shakeup within the campaign of Democratic Congressional candidate Anthony Gemma.

There is some dispute as to the actual reason Lazzerini left, however. Gemma spokesperson Alex Morash said the “hours became too much” and that Lazzerini was preparing to head back to school in the fall.
In a brief interview with GoLocalProv, Lazzerini said hours had nothing to do with the reason he left and again repeated that the decision was mutual. When informed that Morash said school was a factor, the phone call was disconnected and Lazzerini did not return follow up calls.
Morash confirmed that another member of the field team also resigned today, citing a decision to attend school as well.

Slowly, the wheels are falling off the bus. The bus which to this point has led to no where. Bring back the fighting instinct Gemma had last election and maybe just maybe Chickachini will fall.

Don't you know Joseph, you aren't allowed to direct your candidate. Wait let me phrase that properly, you aren't allowed to direct a candidate who thinks it's his way or the highway. Come on we are talking about a candidate who hired a campaign manager who is way out of her league. Again, you don't hire the Brockton Rocks to play against the Boston Red Sox.

Around this same time last election Gemma's Campaign Manager said see you later, this guy has no idea about politics. Sounds to me like nobody can work with this guy. Are we sure we want him representing CD-1 in Washington?

Gemma's brand of campaigning is all about personal hype. Lots of signs, banners, chochkies, t-shirts, a zillion virtual friends and plenty of photo ops to post alongside inspirational quotes on FB. Not much beyond that. Good luck in 2014.

@ Ed Smith-He would've had a better chance at office had he stayed at Republican.

Gemma, who doesnt know what he's doing, and his campaign manager, who doesnt know what she's doing, chose Lazzerini, who may be Mr.Gay RI 2012 but definitely didint know what he was doing, to run field for a congressional campaign. There's a pattern there somewhere.

@ Ed. I have no clue why this man blows his entire bank account only to set himself up for failure. It is sad to see honestly. If you're going to blow your wad at least bring in some hired guns from K Street who can actually pull off an upset. His paid bloggers spew the campaigns mentality all over these blogs. One paid staffer constantly says we came in second in a four way and this time its only a two way race, we can't lose. SERIOUSLY! Dumbasses you are going up against perhaps the best campaigner this state has. Granted I hate Chickachini but he can mastermind a campaign and persuade voters better than anyone. Heck Chickachini even has someone on the inside over there at Roosevelt HQ. He is the best of the best at the antics and dirty politics. That's why he wins. The rookie staff on camp Gemma are all fools because they follow a leader who has ZERO CLUE how to win a campaign.

Rumor has it that he fired the kid because someone blogged that he applied for Chickachini's campaign in the first place? Not true, but it did bring out the Howard Dean side of Gemma we all know he has.

The Colonel will be walking into this seat backwards.

The Colonel is the man who deserves the position. The man who spent his entire life serving the people of RI. Plus Doherty has surrounded himself with the staff to do so.

Blais:
Dohertys campaign manager is a rookie - remains to be seen if he has the staff to get it done.
But I agree, Doherty is the best man for the job.

I'm most certainly not defending Anthony Gemma. But, Joseph Lazzerini ran for Attleboro City Council in 2009 and lost by less than 200 votes and wasn't it Alex Morash their spokesperson the one who managed his campaign? He went on to work for MassEquality in Boston, MA in 2010 and in 2011 as a Field Organizer working on multiple legislative races and prior to that in 2008 he managed Field Operations for Mass. State Rep. Bill Bowles. So he certainly knows what he's doing and him leaving Gemma's campaign is a disaster because he was the only one on that campaign who knew what he was doing in terms of field. It seems like some field people are following him - the same day another member of the field team resigned. It seems like Mr. Doherty is walking into this seat.

I'm surprised a seat with this much significance has such little talent in the pool. With the poor showing in Cicilline polling numbers six months ago, Rhode Island should have had the cream of the crop running.

When the Chairman of the RI DEM party is running incumbency protection for a candidate who lies to the people, plays dirty pool politics and consists on voter persuasion filled with lies and falsehoods, should certainly show you the direction of the party moving forward.

@ Greggs- A state rep race, REALLY? Running for city council in Attleboro, REALLY? BTW he lost that race even with the support of the Mayor who is cut from the same cloth, if you will. Far Far Far from qualifies someone to run the field for a U.S. Congressional Race. Those positions are for K Street firms and those of "us" who have won Federal elections before. COME ON MAN!

@ Sionni-Ups and Downs do occur on campaigns. However, this happens every time this guy runs for office. Last election the manager RUNS, this election field staff RUNS. Are you really going to chalk this pattern of behavior by your Mighty Mouse leader as ups and downs. You are clueless.

Don't underestimate the kids talents. Clearly he left the campaign for a reason. From what I hear Gemma is a crazy bat case to work for.

You think it's a coincidence his Field Director quit barely two weeks before he announces this crazy talk.....Connecting the dots.
