The race between House Speaker Gordon Fox and independent candidate Mark Binder is being described as “too close to call” by Binder’s campaign manager, Jeff Britt.

Britt based his assessment on Binder’s reception at the polls as well as Fox’s “tactic” of deploying state workers to volunteer at the polls for him—first reported by GoLocalProv this afternoon. (Click here to view the video.)

“When you’re an independent candidate that takes on the forces to be, this is the game,” Britt said.

As another sign that the Speaker is worried about today’s election, Britt noted that Fox was spotted campaigning outside the polls with Senators Whitehouse and Reed, Myrth York, and state Attorney General Peter Kilmartin.

The high voter turnout being reported statewide and in Providence specifically is another factor that traditionally should favor challenger candidates, Britt added.
