NEW: Doherty Spokesman Out as General Counsel to State GOP
Wednesday, January 25, 2012
Brendan Doherty campaign spokesman Robert Coupe has resigned as general counsel to the state Republican Party, GOP chairman Mark Zaccaria has confirmed.
The transition, which has been in the works for at least a month, was fueled by animosity between members of the State Central Committee and Coupe, according to several sources. The majority of the Committee had lined up to support former State Rep. and Congressional candidate John Loughlin, who recently decided not to run for Congress.
Loughlin's departure from the race led some to believe Coupe would remain in his position with the Party, but Zaccaria said Coupe chose to focus solely on the Doherty campaign. He will also fill a vacant seat on the Central Committee and sit on the Executive Committee.

The majority of those incidents came during Doherty campaign manager Gio Cicione's tenure as Chairman of the Party.
