First District Congressional candidate Brendan Doherty has raised $300,000 in his first 50 days of running for office, his campaign announced today.

The total was released in advance of Friday’s FEC filing deadline for the second quarter. Of the donors, 97 percent were in-state and over 600 were individuals. Doherty, the former State Police Superintendent, has also loaned $50,000 to his campaign.

“I greatly appreciate the tremendous support that I have received since announcing my candidacy,” said Doherty. “From $10 donations to those much larger than that, hundreds of people have come forward to help me fund a campaign that will require major resources to allow us to compete and get our message across. Make no mistake, this will be a long and hard fought campaign, but I am in it to win it for all those people in the District who are tired of the status quo and the lack of character, integrity and strength our present representation embodies.”
