NEW: Chafee Restores Interagency Council on Homelessness
Wednesday, March 02, 2011
Governor Lincoln Chafee yesterday signed an executive order restoring the Interagency Council on Homelessness—which had become dormant for the last two years under his predecessor.
The mission of the council is to coordinate efforts at all levels of government to end homelessness. It will also make recommendations on how to reduce the number of homeless and advocate for affordable housing.
The move comes after a series of hearings on homelessness by the Senate Committee on Housing and Municipal Governor, chaired by Senator John Tassoni, D-Smithfield, North Smithfield.

Tassoni also announced that he would be introducing legislation to make the council a permanent public body in Rhode Island, so that future governors will not have to sign an executive order to continue it.
