The post-election campaign finance reports filed yesterday offer a final glimpse of the election as it headed into its final days.

The reports—which capture the last seven days of fundraising—show gubernatorial candidate Lincoln Chafee pulling ahead of Democratic opponent Frank Caprio, a trend reflected in polls at the time as well.

Chafee has raised a total of $75,745 since Oct. 26 while Caprio has pulled in $48,295 during the same period. Mike Trainor, a spokesman for Chafee, said there had been an “uptick” in fundraising as people saw the campaign was headed in the right direction. A spokesman for Caprio declined comment.

Republican John Robitaille, meanwhile, came in second in the election while placing third in the money race—collecting just $14,995 in the final stretch of the campaign. (The reports also include any additional money collected up until Nov. 29. See below table for the complete  results.)

Surprises outside the race for governor

Outside the race for governor, the reports turn up a few surprises. Independent candidate for Attorney General Keven McKenna, for example, raised the most of the five candidates in his race—even topping frontrunner Peter Kilmartin, $24,275 to $23,188, according to the reports each candidate filed with the Board of Elections.

Also, in the race for Secretary of State, Republican Catherine Taylor narrowly lost to Democratic incumbent Ralph Mollis. But in terms of fundraising, she handily beat him, pulling in $5,430 to his $1,950 during the period.
