Jim Lombardi

Jim Lombardi, has announced his bid to retain his seat in this year’s election. Lombardi, who was appointed to the school committee in December following Robert Lafleuer’s resignation, is running to continue his efforts in establishing North Smithfield as Rhode Island’s best community for families and residents.

Since taking on the role of school committee member just a few months ago, Lombardi has worked on a number of initiatives, including a successful push for new technology district-wide. “Competitive schools are the foundation of a community’s quality of life,” Lombardi said. “As an elected member of the school committee, I will serve our town’s students, families and citizens responsibly, and strengthen our community by making North Smithfield the first choice for families in Rhode Island.”

Lombardi brings decades of public service, civic pride, and legal and financial expertise to the role; he currently serves as City Treasurer for the City of Providence, and senior adviser to the Providence City Council. He is the former Vice President of the North Smithfield Neighborhood Coalition and the former solicitor for the Town of North Smithfield. Lombardi is both an attorney and Certified Public

Accountant, and has volunteered his legal services to the town at no cost.

His children, Gianna, James, and Christian, are now school-aged and attend public schools in the district.

“As a father, I know how important it is for children to receive an excellent education. That is what attracted me to North Smithfield years ago. As an elected member of the school committee, I will continue to serve the public as a citizen and father, rather than a politician,” Lombardi said. “I will work to ensure our resources are allocated responsibly to make the biggest impact on the lives of our students, and I will mandate change in our town for a more open, transparent, conservative, and compassionate government.”

Lombardi’s bid marks the first time the public servant has sought elected office: “Like many of my neighbors, I am frustrated by the direction of our town’s current leadership. I believe this is an opportunity to bring some much-needed cooperation back to the table; for that reason, I ask for your support during the primary and general election, said Lombardi.
