Thursday, October 25, 2012
State Representative Spencer Dickinson on Wednesday announced plans to introduce legislation that would ban fundraising during the legislative session.
In a letter to constituents, Dickinson said this is “an issue where action is long overdue,” and that getting money out of politics is “a high priority with voters in this district.”
“The business of the legislature should be the people’s business,” he said.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, 28 states place restrictions on giving and receiving campaign contributions during the legislative session.
“This makes us all look bad,” Dickinson said. “And it’s time to take some specific steps to regain the people’s trust. This is a big step in the right direction and I’m ready to put it in and go to bat for it. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some legitimate lobbyists showing up to testify in favor of this.”
