Kilmartin blasts Blue Cross in message to supporters
Friday, July 23, 2010
In a fundraising email blast to supporters, Attorney General Candidate Peter Kilmartin blasts Blue Cross for its rate hike and corresponding layoffs. In the email message released late Friday his campaign wrote,"Peter Kilmartin knows that Rhode Islanders are struggling. This is why he took a hard line against Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island – who recently received approval for a nearly 10 percent rate hike increase – when the company announced this week that it will eliminate more than 100 jobs as a cost cutting measure. Peter believes it is wrong that health insurance companies in our state are given special tax breaks from government but are then able to cut jobs and jack up rates on consumers."
