Judge Says ‘No Thanks’ to Obamacare

Obama went too far. So says a judge in Virginia who rules that requiring Americans to purchase health insurance by 2014 is unconstitutional. Frankly, I couldn’t agree more. Progressives I’m thinking about you as I write this. Progressives try to tell us that it’s the government’s job to take care of all of our problems. From healthcare to the economy, the Progressive mantra comes from the oft maligned Vanilla Ice song, Ice Ice Baby, “If there’s a problem, yo, I’ll solve it!”

Healthcare system is failing? Let’s throw some taxpayer dollars at it!

Economy tanking? Let’s throw almost a trillion dollars in taxpayer money at it!

Again and again, Progressives and now our President believe that the U.S. government is the author and executor of – pardon the phrase – Change We Can Believe In. In their minds government has not only the responsibility, but is the entity equipped with dealing with issues facing our country. It is encouraging to see that this judge is not drinking the Kool-Aid.

This ruling and others are only the precursors to the battle that is forthcoming over the Obama healthcare plan. The two sides are like two sides of a coin with very little common ground. Proponents of the healthcare bill believe that it ‘gives’ all Americans access to affordable healthcare. Opponents think its wasteful spending, will lead to increased healthcare costs, and unconstitutional.

I tend to agree with the latter and believe that our country inches closer and closer towards an environment where we rely on government for any and everything. I have a major problem with that as I believe our entrepreneurial spirit is what helped us stay ahead of other countries for so long. By edging towards a welfare state, I believe we lose much of the soul that makes us Americans. Universal healthcare is a feel-good story, but what’s next? Everyone must have clean socks. Or everyone has a right to a car paid for by the government?

Hopefully, when this issue reaches the Supreme Court, justices will side with average Americans and strike this down. This provision goes too far and is out of step with our history, our culture, and our right to determine how we live our lives.
