• 700 people apply for 84 positions to become teachers in Central Falls. Two months ago, all we heard from the teachers and their union is that nobody wanted to teach at the school and the kids were lazy. Summers off, nights free, school vacations and weekends off. $90,000 a year, free healthcare, pensions, and 24 paid sick days. Maybe the teachers in Central Falls have a better job than they thought.
  • In a classic Rhode Island move, Councilman Douglas of North Providence asks for permission to go on a golfing vacation, three days after being arrested by the FBI. Something tells me a judge is not going to find that amusing.

    Having Said That

    • I am getting tired of hearing local news stories about “the flood.”
    • Callers from North Providence were calling in to my show on WPRO regarding the FBI arresting three members from the council. Some of the comments:
    • “It wasn’t taxpayer money they took.”
    • “25 grand ain’t a lot of money. It ain’t like they was greedy.”
    • “They come from nice families.”
    • “Everyone in Rhode Island has their hands in the cookie jar.”
    • “The real bad guy is the rat who went to the FBI”.
    • I am starting to think they should not have resigned since it sounds like they would have been re-elected in a North Providence landslide.
    • There is a rumor that city council members from Pawtucket, West Warwick, and Central Falls have all reached out to Stop and Shop to let them know they would love to do business with their developer.
    • Lt. Governor Liz Roberts is pushing for a policy where TV/radio must carry an entire press briefing from E.M.A. in Cranston during emergencies. The reason for this is during the flood, she spoke last at press briefings and the media cut away. I guess we missed her umbrella alerts.
    • How can you tell it is May in Rhode Island? The local TV stations have May sweeps packages on the mob and the Foxy Lady.
    • California is so broke, they cannot afford to fix sidewalks and it is no up to the resident to repair them. How long before we have to pay to fill the potholes?
    • I love when the Bruins are in the playoffs.
    • We can put a man on the moon but they cannot stop that oil leak off the gulf coast.
    • Having said that, it is never dull in the Ocean State.
    • John DePetro can be heard weekdays from 6AM till 10AM on 630 WPRO and 99.7FM.

I did think that Councilman Douglas asking to take a vacation was, well, interesting. Really? Do you think the judge will go for that?

    Thanks for the laugh.
