Harrop Withdraws, No Republican Running for Mayor of Providence
Friday, July 02, 2010
Dan Harrop, the Republican candidate for mayor of Providence, has withdrawn from the race and will instead challenge East Side Democrat Edith Ajello for state rep.
Harrop told GoLocalProv he decided to withdraw after Republican Jon Scott entered the race as an independent candidate. “There are two independent candidates and four Democrats, so that should give the people of Providence a choice,” Harrop said.
State Republican chairman Giovanni Cicione appointed Harrop to run against Ajello—state law allows such appointments if they are done within 24 hours of the filing deadline, which was Wednesday.
