Democrat Joe Fernandez , the former City Solicitor of Providence and co-chair of the Obama RI campaign, will formally launch his campaign for Attorney General tomorrow by unveiling his “Rhode Island Anti-Corruption Bill of Rights,” a plan for attacking corruption and making Rhode Island government accountable to the people it serves.

The announcement will be at 10:00 AM tomorrow near the corner of Gaspee and Francis Streets in downtown Providence (across from the State Capitol building).

The campaign announcement states that "as we all know, Joe is the only candidate for Attorney General who will lead the charge to change the way this state does business by taking on corruption, working toward a business climate that grows our economy, and making Rhode Island safer.  I hope you can join us tomorrow as Joe formally kicks off his campaign to end the culture of special deals and special privilege that continue to hold this state back. It's your continued help and support that will make Joe Fernandez our next Attorney General."

Fernandez resigned as City Solicitor in September and, for the next 6 months, ran a relatively quiet campaign.  However, recently, Fernandez ramped up his campaign with the hiring of Campaign Manager Dan Herkert, a veteran of a number of Democratic primary campaigns including Dan Hynes for Governor; Finance Director Daniel Greeley, a veteran of Betsy Markey Congressional run in Colorado in 2008; Mail Consultant Karen Petel, a native of Central Falls and former political director of Emily’s List and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC); Pollster Anna Bennett, who has over 20 years of experience in public opinion research and strategic consulting including being the lead pollster for the Obama for America campaign; and Matt Erickson of Laguens Kully Klose Partners will serve as the campaign’s media consultant.  Political insiders may remember that Erickson scripted U.S. Senator Jon Tester’s famous “Haircut” ad

Fernandez is a 1985 graduate of Brown University and a 1991 graduate of Harvard Law.  He lives on the East Side of Providence with his wife, Emily Maranjian, a prosecutor in the AG's office.
