Cicilline Says Small Businesses Need Access to Credit
Friday, July 23, 2010
Democratic Congressional candidate David Cicilline called for Congress to ensure that small businesses have access to the capital they need to expand.
“Small businesses are the backbone of Rhode Island’s economy and we should do everything we can to protect their access to the capital they need to thrive,” Cicilline said, while on a tour of the Broadway Business District in Newport. “In Congress, I will do everything I can to make sure that our state’s small companies get the support they are counting on from the federal government.”
The Cicilline campaign noted that businesses with fewer than 20 workers make up nearly 91 percent of all employers in the state, according to data from the Department of Labor and Training. Cicilline said businesses need access to capital to hire new people, buy equipment, or maintain and extend their operations.
