Chafee Outraged Over Caprio ‘Abuse of Power’
Thursday, October 14, 2010
Lincoln Chafee’s campaign expressed outrage yesterday over reports that Frank Caprio had obtained a $25,000 legislative grant for his son’s private school while he was in the state Senate.
“It is deeply troubling that then-Senator Caprio would exploit his status and power as a top State House legislative leader – indeed a committee chairman – to divert taxpayer dollars to support a private institution with close personal ties to his family,” said Chafee spokesman Mike Trainor.
Trainor said the grant was part of a pattern of “elected and appointed officials abusing the prestige of their office to advantage family and friends at the expense of the public good.”

Caprio Campaign Manager Xay Khamsyvoravong condemned the statements, noting that Chafee has already made Caprio’s father a campaign issue. “It’s outrageous is that Lincoln Chafee first attacked Frank’s 73 year- old father and his latest attack includes Frank’s 13-year-old son. Who's next? News flash Mr. Chafee, Frank’s family members aren’t running for Governor.”
He added: “The Appointed United States Senator is the last person to be giving lectures on cronyism.”
