Carcieri Accuses Caprio of Meddling in Curt Schilling Deal
Tuesday, August 31, 2010

“Businesses and the bond market should not be subject to political posturing,” Carcieri said, also taking issue with Lincoln Chafee’s opposition. “The attitudes and positions taken by Mr. Caprio and Mr. Chafee serve only to undermine the positive economic development steps the state has taken in recent years.”
Carcieri noted that the law which made the $75 million loan guarantee possible was unanimously approved by the Senate and passed the House on a vote of 66 to 1. He said the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation voted unanimously to strike the deal with Schilling after “months of due diligence.”
“It is a gross overstatement to imply that the Job Creation Guaranty Act reflects poorly on the state’s financial management or could have an adverse impact on the state’s bond rating,” Carcieri said. “The fact is that a loan guarantee bond of this size or type has no impact on the state’s general obligation or its bond rating.”

Frank Caprio will do anything to be Governor. He has been in the State House for 20 years. He served 16 years in the legislature before he became General Treasurer. He voted for many tax increase, the unionization of day care workers, and letting employees buy into the state pension system with just 5 years under their belts. FRANK CAPRIO IS PART OF THE SYSTEM AND NEEDS TO GO!

Now let me get this right..38 Studios bad deal for RI, but Deep Water Wind is a good deal for RI? So a deal that triples electric rates is a good deal and a private deal that allows a new company to come in and create jobs in a state where nobody wants to come and create jobs is a bad deal. Yes, it doesn't make sense now does it. Neither does Mr. Caprio! Well stated above...he does need to go!

Politics aside, as as businessman, neither deal sounds very good to me. We need to focus more on improving the business climate of our state. Instead of throwing money at the unemployment problems perhaps we should be focusing on ways to make doing business here more paletable. What we need is more manufacturing jobs for those people who are not qualified for high tech jobs and never will be. Let's face it, They are in the majority and are not going to just go away. I don't care who's in and who's out of office. I just want to see some results!

Caprio's switch from supporting studio 38 to being against it is evidence of a good politician. Good politicians scent the political climate and act accordingly. Sadly this does not make for good policy. Studio 38 is a bad idea simply because it involves government in an area in which it has little experience, which is determining business winners or losers. This is what markets are for. Caprio should have known that before he supported the deal,
What Caprio should be doing or rather undoing are all the laws that made Rhode Island end up at number 49 in the rankings a state's business climate. As a career politician Caprio had a lot to do with creating this mess I doubt if he knows how to get out of it.
