"[Cicilline] has proven his commitment to champion environmental issues that improve our daily lives from public transportation, to cutting air pollution, to recycling.”
“We are very pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses David Cicilline for election,” said Abel Collins, Sierra Club’s program manager. “We are confident that he will continue work to protect Rhode Island’s environment, for our families and for our future.”
Cicilline has pledged to fight global warming and proposed the creation of a $2 billion grant program that would help promote the use of clean energy by small manufacturers.
GOP Mayors Endorse Wallin for AG
Republican Attorney General candidate Erik Wallin announced today the endorsement of Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian and Cranston Mayor Allan Fung as well as former Attorney General Jeffrey Pine.
"I have known Erik for over a year and a half and have learned much about him. I have seen his dedication to Rhode Island and the commitment that he has to bring his prosecutorial experience to bear in the Attorney General’s Office,” Avedisian said. “Over eighteen months ago Erik stepped forward to run for Attorney General articulating the need to crack down on public corruption and restore pride and hope in our state.”
"Having felony prosecution experience, something no other candidate running for AG has, is critically important for an Attorney General," Fung said. “With Erik, Rhode Islanders will know that they have the best, most experienced and dedicated person in the job - someone who will help our cities, particularly Cranston, aggressively prosecute dangerous felons, and make our communities safer.”
Former Attorney General Jeff Pine, who has previously endorsed Wallin, also affirmed his support for him as well.
Faculty Union Endorses Caprio
The University of Rhode Island's Chapter of The American Association of University Professors (AAUP)—the union that represents the faculty at the University of Rhode Island—endorsed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Frank Caprio today.
"Frank Caprio understands... that Rhode Island must educate its next generation of leaders and retain the talent produced from its educational institutions," said Dr. Frank R. Annunziato, Executive Director of the URI/AAUP Chapter.
As Treasurer Caprio said he had strengthened RI's leading college savings program, CollegeBoundfund, creating the Starter Contribution Program, which contributes $100 to every CollegeBoundfund account opened for a baby born or adopted in Rhode Island. He has also backed the Race to the Top, a program that provides competitive federal grants to states for educational reform efforts.
