Breaking News: Chafee Ahead of Caprio in Latest Poll
Friday, July 23, 2010
Independent candidate for governor Lincoln Chafee is ahead of Democrat Frank Caprio, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll released today.
The poll shows Chafee with 37 percent of the vote against 30 percent for Caprio, if John Robitaille is the Republican nominee. In that match-up, Robitaille would get 23 percent of the vote, 8 percent would be undecided, and 2 percent would vote for another candidate. If former state Rep Victor Moffitt, on the other hand, is the Republican nominee, Chafee would still be ahead with 36 percent support compared to 33 percent for Caprio, leaving Moffitt with 18 percent. Nine percent would be undecided and 4 percent would prefer another candidate.
The release of the poll comes just one week after Democrat Patrick Lynch dropped out of the race, ensuring Caprio would not have to face a primary.
