AG Lynch Applauds Senate Committee for Delaying Wind Farm Bill

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Attorney General Patrick Lynch yesterday thanked the Rhode Island Senate leadership and the Environment and Agriculture Committee for delaying consideration of a bill that would allow plans for a wind farm off Block Island to move forward.

“I appreciate the leadership shown by President (M. Teresa) Paiva-Weed and Chairwoman (V. Susan) Sosnowski today for having the committee take the extra time that this issue clearly merits,” Lynch said.

“Even though we might ultimately disagree on the bill that the committee votes out on this important matter, the Senate leadership stood up for the process of conducting full due diligence and I thank the leaders for that,” he added.

The bill would bypass the Public Utilities Commission, which has rejected a contract between National Grid and wind-farm developer Deepwater Wind, and give the authority to approve a contract to four other state agencies.
