A Candidate with Washington Ties, But Roots in RI
Thursday, June 24, 2010
The first woman GOP candidate to eye a run for statewide office has had a long career in Washington while maintaining deep ties to Rhode Island.
Catherine Terry Taylor has spent the bulk of her two-decades political career on the staff of Senators Chafee—first for the elder John Chafee and then later for his son, Lincoln Chafee.
Taylor first joined the senatorial staff of John Chafee in 1988 as a legislator assistant, advising him on defense and foreign policy issues. She served as his speechwriter during the effort to pass health care reform in 1993 and 1994. In 1995, she wrote speeches for him while he served as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.
