Luis Daniel Munoz

Rhode Island gubernatorial hopeful Luis Daniel Munoz has garnered little attention to his campaign this election season, but on Thursday the independent candidate released a highly edited audio tape that he claims is of a “high ranking political operative” discussing how he manipulates politics in Rhode Island. The “political operative” claims that he can destroy Munoz.

On Friday, Munoz, an independent, came to GoLocal studios to appear on a Coalition Radio segment which is hosted weekly by Pat Ford of the Libertarian Party -- and Munoz was accompanied by a security officer.  Munoz says he has received threats after releasing the tape. The Coalition Radio segment is independent of GoLocal.

In the tape, the “operative” claims to have helped gotten Patrick Kennedy elected and worked closely with former Providence Mayor Angel Taveras.

“We got him [Patrick Kennedy] elected. He had no fucking business being elected. He was young goofy fucked up in the head on fucking medication completely never had a fucking job and he's running against an emergency room doctor hero who should have won that fucking race -- the guy's going down a South America and reconstructing peoples fucking faces and shit like that. Who should have won that race? The rich fucking kid with nothing on his resume?"

The unnamed operative then turns his attention to Munoz.

"What we did --  we fucked up the doctor..and we can fuck you up too. Before you're out of the fucking blocks you've got tarantulas like us sowing discontent suspicion and innuendo and rumors about who and what you are."

Munoz refuses to say who is on the tape or when it was recorded.

“I wanted to follow-up directly to say that I will reserve any comments regarding the incident/details at this time,” said Munoz in an email to GoLocal.

Munoz has his own issues

While Munoz criticizes the political atmosphere in Rhode Island, he has failed to file his last two campaign finance reports as a candidate for Governor.

He did not file his required 28 days before the General Election or his 7 days before the General Election reports.
