Even with residential break-ins on the rise in the city, Providence remains way behind other New England cities in number of homicides so far this year.

In fact, among the nine most populated cities in New England with a reported homicide total, Providence ranks fourth with 11 total homicides (tied with New Haven, CT) - more than 50% less than the two cities with the most homicides.
Additionally, Providence has the fifth lowest number of homicides among major New England cities in 2015 per capita (.061 per 1,000) falling behind Worcester and Boston, MA and Stamford and Waterbury, CT.

In 2013 and 2014, Providence also saw 11 homicides through the first week of September. In 2012, the city witnessed 14.
