The Warwick City Council voted unanimously to approve an agreement that extends the runway at T.F. Green Airport.
The approval, which comes after months of opposition from the Council, will allow the runway to grow by about 1,500 feet.
Prior to the meeting, the Council's Litigation subcommittee and Rhode Island Airport Corporation, reached a conceptual agreement regarding the expansion.

“For more than a decade, residents and businesses located within the shadow of the airport have lived with uncertainty as the Federal Aviation Administration and RIAC presented various expansion proposals. I am hopeful that the full City Council will approve the Subcommittee’s conceptual agreement, which will finally resolve this issue, allow the project to proceed with adequate protections in place and, very importantly, give residents and business owners the ability to once and for all plan for the future," he said.
