"We were interviewing Trump and he was on the verge of getting the Republican nomination but the common wisdom was he would not win -- so we spent some time looking at the larger questions," said Woodward. "The Presidency is about power so we asked him about power, and quoted some things Obama had said ...and Trump said real power is, and I don't even like to use the word, is fear."

"It was almost a Shakespearean aside, like Hamlet -- he turns to the audience and reveals himself," said Woodward. "No cameras were there, but it was jarring. You got a sense that's really what he thought.

"The criticism of Trump is not he's not normal -- is actually made by people who who didn't see what happened on the campaign because he campaigned not to be normal," said Woodward. "The people who are close to him feel he's a threat to national security and financial security.  There's no team in the White House. As Reince Priebus -- Trump's first Chief of Staff said -- it's zoo without walls -- which was an alternative title [for the book]."
