Raimondo then announced the travel ban would be lifted as of 8 P.M.

"I know everyone's getting itchy, but it's not safe," said Raimondo.  "Just hang in there a little while longer. If you do, you'll be saving lives.  You've been wonderful so far.  If you don't have to go out, please don't go out.

Raimondo also warned Rhode Islanders to prepare for extreme cold Tuesday night.

"Prepare for extreme cold tonight," said Raimondo.  "We'll come through this with minimal damage.  We asked you to stay home and you did, stay at home just a little while longer."

Providence Schools Closed Wednesday

Providence public schools will remain closed on Wednesday.

Providence City Council President Luis Aponte spoke with GoLocal about the city's decision.

"The sidewalks and lots need to be up and ready," said Aponte.  "We have to move a bunch of the snow and get it off site.  There are two locations where it's moved to -- Marino Park off of Hartford Ave, and a large lot in 195 land.  That's being done with an eye towards later storms this weekend."
