UPDATE: Igor is Down But Not Out This Morning

Igor is having trouble getting its act together and has been downgraded to a tropical depression during the past 24 hours. However, it is expected to outrun its current unfavorable environment and intensify in the next couple of days. The storm is still over 3,000 miles from any point along the U.S. East Coast. Here’s this morning’s official advisory.

 
AT 500 AM AST...0900 UTC...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL DEPRESSION IGOR

WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 16.0 NORTH...LONGITUDE 29.3 WEST. THE

DEPRESSION IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 13 MPH...20 KM/HR AND THIS

GENERAL MOTION WITH AN INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS EXPECTED DURING

THE NEXT DAY OR TWO.

 

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS REMAIN NEAR 35 MPH...55 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER

GUSTS.  IGOR IS EXPECTED TO REGAIN TROPICAL STORM STRENGTH LATER

TODAY.

 

ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 1004 MB...29.65 INCHES.
