Unemployment Rate Dips Down Slightly

The unemployment rate in Rhode Island has gone down by just one tenth of a percent.
The latest numbers show the rate dipped down from 11.5 percent in September to 11.4 percent in October, according to the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training. This is the eighth consecutive monthly decrease and the lowest rate since July 2009, but still almost 2 percent higher than the national rate: 9.6 percent.
The number of unemployed Rhode Islanders decreased for the ninth consecutive month while he number employed increased by 1,100, bringing the 2010 yearly increase up to 4,700 -- the largest over-the-year increase since 2007.
Employment in the private sector rose by 800 jobs over the month, but the government sector lost 200.
